Article on Grey Hair

With our age increasing with time we find one fine day that our hair is also aging. One of the most prominent sign of age is graying of hair. It is simultaneously the most familiar and the most despairing sign of growing of age. Graying of hair and the time when the process will be started all depends on the genetic codes of ones family background. Genetic inheritance is the main thing but it is also seen that around 50 per cent of Caucasians are affected of this graying of hair in their age of 50. So it is not only the genetic inheritance that is the deciding factor.

Loss of hair color is a gradual decline in the production of a pigment, melanin in the hair bulb. You can find this pigments and melanin in the black, brown and red hairs but white hairs has no pigment or melanin. Now the grey hairs have to some extent melanin but as much as the mentioned hairs. So if you look at the hairs, which are gradually graying you, can see a variety of hairs where there are pigmented hairs and also white hairs. The reason is that not all the hairs started to grey at the same time and in the same way and also at the same rate. It is a gradual process. You cannot prevent the process of graying hairs but you can check the premature graying of hair follicles. If you look at individual hairs on a graying head then you will find out that there is a range of colorful hairs from white to another all along each hair and from one hair to another. First grey hairs are usually seen near the temples and then it gradually spread all over the head. From temples to crown and then the back portion the white hairs are seen all over your head.

Grey hairs come to vision when the shedding of pigmented hairs is rapid and not selective. Selective shedding of hairs can retain your pigmented hairs for a time being but it is rapidly increasing then you cannot help it but to admit it. This kind of graying of hair and shedding of black hairs may take several months. Again it may take a few days. Until the darker hairs are all gone your grey hairs are not visible to people. If you lost your dark and pigmented hairs at the age of 35 then it is an example of premature graying. There are lots of reasons behind this premature graying of hairs. Excessive intake of tea, coffee, alcohol, meat, and fried, oily, greasy, spicy, sour, and acidic foods can reduce the moisture and nutrients reaching the hair follicles and may lead to premature graying. The decreasing ratio of melanin production is due to lack of mineral copper. Eating of foods like crab, oysters, sunflower seeds, cashews and almonds prevents the premature graying of hair as they are full of copper which is very much important to prevent this.
